Private Developer Announces Support for Community Center in Uniondale

JJBCC PRESS RELEASE- November 9, 2014

The Engel Burman Group, a Garden City-based real estate developer specializing in assisted living facilities — which recently won a bid from the Nassau University Medical Center to construct assisted living facilities at the A. Holly Patterson properties in Uniondale — has acknowledged its commitment to work with the John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE (JJBCC) to provide a community center at the A. Holly Patterson site. In a series of community meetings in Uniondale, Steven Krieger, a partner at the Engel Burman Group, has stressed the firm’s philosophy of aligning with the communities in which they operate and emphasized the company’s willingness to collaborate with JJBCC to provide a facility for the community’s youth.

In discussions with David Greaves, President of JJBC, Steven Krieger reiterated his organization’s intention to be a partner in advancing this venture. The developer’s commitment – which stems from a community benefits agreement between Nassau University Medical Center and JJBC pledging at least $2 million of assistance from potential developers of the site, in addition to a 5-acreage community set-aside – will result in an ongoing collaboration between JJBC, Engel Burman Group, NUMC, and other potential developers of the A. Holly Patterson properties.

For its part, JJBCC is delighted at the prospect of this working relationship and hopes to attract the attention of other stakeholders in the Long Island area to realize its vision for a state-of-the-art indoor facility of about 45,000 sq. ft., equipped to include recreational, after-school, and community engagement space; as well as outdoor athletic fields that will cater to the children and families of Uniondale.

The community center is a project that for a long time has been dear to the hearts of many community groups in the area, and widely supported by the majority of the Uniondale population and its neighboring communities.
