By David Greaves

Governor George Pataki visited the Uniondale Neighborhood Center on November 27, 1994, fulfilling his promise to see the organization’s work firsthand. The visit, arranged by Luis Vasquez, Executive Director of CASA and a member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, coincided with UNC’s Annual Summer Cookout.

More than 150 members warmly welcomed Governor Pataki and seized the opportunity to showcase the organization’s work and plans for a community center. UNC’s president, Angel Mejias, Luis Vasquez, David Greaves, and other board members expressed their enthusiasm for sharing their vision with the governor while enjoying the festivities.

During the tour, David Greaves, the treasurer of Uniondale Neighborhood Center, and Angel Mejias presented Governor Pataki with a written proposal for funding a new community center. They also highlighted how the current facility could be adapted to meet the organization’s aspirations. The event was attended by notable figures such as Nassau County Legislator Darlene Harris and Bishop J. Raymond Mackey, Sr. of Tabernacle of Joy Church, showcasing the great community spirit and hopefulness of the attendees for the recognition by the governor of the prospects for a Uniondale community center.
